THE CHRIST QUIZ!
Do you know Jesus? Maybe not as well as you think ...

1. Jesus was born:

a) in a manger

b) at an inn

c) under a bad sign

d) in an undisclosed location

ANSWER:

d. The Bible only makes one reference to a manger and it does not say Jesus was born there. It merely states that when Mary arrived with Joseph in Bethlehem she had a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes (Luke 2:7). There was no room at the local inn (though researchers say the word could also be translated as "guest house") and the three slept in a manger for the night. Also of note: in that part of the world, most mangers or stables were caverns and not wooden buildings.

2. Jesus died for:

a) our sins

b) committing murder

c) attacking the moneychangers

d) eating meat on Good Friday

ANSWER:

c. Jesus was essentially convicted of treason under Roman law after attacking the Temple moneychangers and proclaiming the Temple his house (Matthew 21:12). The Jewish High Priest Caiaphas then urged the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate to condemn Jesus to death for treason and proclaiming himself King of the Jews. (If you answered "a.," we'll let it slide.)

3. Not counting himself, Jesus brought back:

a) 1 person from the dead

b) 2 people from the dead

c) unchecked luggage on a airplane

d) sandals, in a really big way

ANSWER:

b. In addition the bringing Lazarus back from the dead as an adult, according to the Infancy Gospel of Thomas (not included in the Bible), a 5 year-old Jesus once brought a childhood friend back from the dead who had accidentally fallen off a roof (Thomas 9:4). The villagers believed Jesus had pushed the young boy to his death so in order to clear his name he brought the boy back to life to tell his side of the story. Now that's my kind of Jesus!

4. Jesus was:

a) a fisherman

b) a carpenter

c) a shepherd

d) unemployed

ANSWER:

d. Only a few of the disciples were fishermen (wittily, Jesus told them he would make them "fisher of men"); Jesus' father was a carpenter (it's possible Jesus trained as a carpenter, but it's never mentioned in the Bible); and Jesus referred to himself as a shepherd only in parables where his followers were his flock. In fact, all signs point to Jesus as a wandering Jew who simply traveled and spread the word of God through storytelling and occasional miracles. In other words, a non-paying gig - which just goes to show that even messiahs need good references.
